Engine Sealing Technology: How Do Small Seals Achieve Great Power?
Amid the roar of the engine's high-speed operation, every sealing component silently endures rigorous testing. Extreme temperatures, high pressures, oil contamination, and corrosion—these challenges constantly threaten the engine's stability and service life. As the engine's guardian, the performance of sealing materials directly impacts the overall efficiency and reliability of the entire unit.
Engine gaskets are critical components ensuring efficient engine operation, primarily preventing leaks of lubricants, coolants, gases, and other media. Engine operating conditions typically involve high temperatures, high pressures, and high vibrations, thus demanding exceptional thermal resistance, pressure resistance, corrosion resistance, and elastic recovery properties from sealing materials.
SealTex gasket materials have obtained international certifications including RoHS and REACH, meeting environmental standards to serve global OEM customers. They are widely applicable in diesel and gasoline engines for components such as oil pans, gearboxes, bearing caps, oil pumps, water pumps, and intake/exhaust manifolds. Addressing engine industry requirements, SealTex offers four major sealing materials to comprehensively meet all engine sealing needs.
Four major sealing solutions to meet diverse operational requirements
1. ST-2058: General-purpose asbestos-free gasket
ST-2058 is manufactured using advanced calendering technology from a unique high-modulus nitrile rubber (NBR) and selected aramid fibers. This material offers exceptional sealing performance and torque retention, along with outstanding resistance to oil, chemical corrosion, and refrigerants. Featuring double-sided anti-flange bonding treatment, it finds extensive applications in petrochemical, power generation, shipbuilding, compressor, and diesel engine industries.
2. ST-2067: Wire-reinforced high-temperature, high-pressure sealing gasket
ST-2067 is an asbestos-free, environmentally friendly gasket specifically developed for high-temperature and high-pressure environments. It is composed of NBR and asbestos-free fibers, reinforced with high-strength metal wires. It can withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 450°C, with a maximum resistance to temperatures of 550°C, and can handle pressures up to 100 bar.
Particularly suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure applications such as engine manufacturing, shipbuilding, power generation, and diesel exhaust manifolds, it can partially replace traditional graphite sealing materials.
3. ST-2131: A sealing gasket specifically designed for heavy-duty power equipment.
ST-2131 is a red sealing material composed of synthetic fibers and neoprene rubber. It maintains excellent sealing performance and low torque stress under low flange pressures, with a maximum operating temperature of 210°C.
Widely used in various power and transmission equipment, including gear motors, gearboxes, mid-mounted motors, servo motors, as well as heavy equipment, engines, compressors, diesel engines/oil pans, and other sealing applications.
4. ST-4376: Specialized Gasket for Turbocharger Systems
ST-4376 Mica Composite Gasket is constructed with double-sided selected mica layers reinforced by an intermediate metal layer. This material exhibits exceptional high-temperature resistance, with a maximum operating temperature of 800°C.
Its unique mica-like layered structure provides exceptional thermal insulation and electrical insulation properties, making it an ideal choice for turbocharging systems, equipment exhaust ports, and sealing high-temperature, high-pressure industrial equipment.
